EST 1969.
The journey commences with a spark of inspiration, coupled with unwavering dedication and diligent effort to attain success in any endeavor. In the late 1960s, Mr. Soo Kam Seng, the visionary behind the enterprise, which consequently bore the name SKS Bus, conceived a groundbreaking notion that would redefine the landscape of Bus Manufacturing within Malaysia. Kam Seng translated his vision into reality, embarking on the establishment of his very own Bus Manufacturing venture in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. During that era, it was more prominently recognized as Hup Lee Coachworks.
Under Kam Seng's tireless leadership, Hup Lee Coachwork’s success had exceeded all of his expectations, achieving remarkable success in the industry. Kam Seng poured his heart and soul into crafting buses by hand, dedicating countless hours to the growth of his enterprise.
However, as life often presents unexpected challenges, Kam Seng encountered a significant obstacle along his path. Regrettably, due to unforeseen circumstances, Kam Seng was forced to cease operations, reluctantly putting an end to a chapter he had worked tirelessly for.
Manufacturing Masterpieces
Chapter 2:
The Resurrection.
Several years have elapsed since the closure of Hup Seng Coachworks, and Kam Seng's children have matured into adulthood. His two sons, in collaboration with their cousin, have ignited a new vision – a vision that seeks to carry forward the legacy their father initiated. Their aspiration is to revive what was prematurely concluded. To give life to a new venture known as SKS Coach and Works.
Chapter 3:
A New Beginning
In the year 1997, the three determined brothers transformed their collective vision into reality. Their meticulously crafted plans unfolded seamlessly. As tribute to their father’s work and legacy, they decided to name the new company as SKS (Soo Kam Seng) Coach & Works.
With these foundational steps successfully laid, the brothers subsequently pivoted their central focus towards the research, development, manufacturing, and marketing of both private and commercial buses and coaches.
Fast forward seven years, and their strategic efforts culminated in a remarkable financial foundation. This empowered them to embark on a transformative chapter by constructing their inaugural, fully-fledged office and factory complex. Within this cutting-edge facility, a comprehensive array of amenities emerged, encompassing a paint shop, advanced fiberglass production capabilities, an assembly line for crafting bus bodies, as well as dedicated departments catering to meticulous servicing and comprehensive after-sales support.
Facility #1
Facility #1 stands as the cornerstone of our legacy, born in 2002, a mere seven years after the inception of SKS. It has always been the hub of our endeavors, dedicated to crafting our esteemed range of coaches and buses with unwavering precision. From its very design, expansion was woven into its DNA. Our commitment to automating and perfecting manufacturing is exemplified by the multitude of robotic arms and CNC machines now residing within, a testament to our unwavering pursuit of excellence.
Facility #3
In 2010, we inaugurated our third cutting-edge facility, exclusively dedicated to the dynamic realm of bus research and development. This hub has been instrumental in birthing our most acclaimed models, such as the E5 and E138i. Our tireless engineers invest their expertise round the clock, meticulously designing and rigorously testing every bus component. Today, this facility is fortified and closely monitored to safeguard the proprietary innovations our engineers work diligently to create.
Facility #2
In 2008, Facility #2 came into existence, designed to serve as a hub for parts storage and comprehensive servicing. In conjunction with this expansion, a sibling enterprise named Desa Millenia emerged, dedicated to meeting the demanding service and after-sales needs of our clientele. The increased space afforded us the opportunity to incorporate more expansive testing equipment, such as brake, rollover, and sideslip tests, contributing to our commitment to innovation.
Chapter 4
In the year 2011, a pivotal moment marked the ascent of SKSBUS when it secured a prestigious government central full supply contract. The task at hand was nothing short of impressive: the creation of 500 citybuses earmarked for the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur.
This ambitious undertaking saw the fusion of our iconic Ci06 body with the robust Mercedes-Benz CBC1725 chassis. The result was nothing short of remarkable. So striking was the appearance of this bus that it quickly garnered nicknames like the "Caterpillar Bus" or "Ulat Bulu" in Malay, owing to its captivating exterior design.
However, this project was more than just a feat of engineering and design. It marked a significant milestone in the journey of SKSBUS. Successfully executing this project opened the floodgates to a slew of new opportunities, propelling our company into a trajectory of substantial growth. It was the dawn of a new era, where SKSBUS would continue to carve its legacy in the world of transportation.
