Kuala Lumpur’s Government GOKL Free Public Bus Program introduces 80 EV Buses built by local leading bus manufacturer SKSBUS.
The GOKL Free Public Bus Program is expanding its fleet with the introduction of 80 electric buses (EV buses), through a collaboration between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and local bus manufacturer SKSBUS (SKS Coachbuilders Sdn. Bhd.) as part of the SKS Go Green initiative.
To support this initiative, SKSBUS has committed 30 million Malaysian Ringgit to purchasing a strategically located property in central Kuala Lumpur, just 15 minutes from the iconic Twin Towers. This facility will serve as the central hub for the accommodation and charging of the 80 fully electric C3 - EV buses, ensuring their efficient operation and maintenance.
By replacing traditional fossil fuel-driven buses with zero-emission electric vehicles, the GOKL program significantly reduces GHG emissions and improves air quality in the city. The project not only benefits the environment but also creates job opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing, maintenance, and project management. Additionally, the initiative promotes local expertise in electric vehicle technology, helping Malaysia advance in the electric mobility sector.
This project supports sustainable urban development and low-carbon growth, aligning with Malaysia’s broader environmental and economic goals. By integrating sustainable transportation solutions, the GOKL Free Public Bus Program plays a pivotal role in both environmental preservation and economic progress, while enhancing local technological capabilities in electric vehicle management.
